“Bolero NYC, is a joyful and breathtakingly clever celebration of the city and its people … Keigwin used 46 civilians of all shapes and ages to create an entertaining city portrait….It is funny, touching and a masterly piece of choreographic organization.”
—The New York Times
Inspired by Ravel’s iconic music, Bolero is a large-scale choreographic event that incorporates a cast of 50 community members and dancers into a tableau of a specific community or region, examining and de-constructing local traits and stereotypes. A collaborative process allows participants to reflect on their lifestyles and capture the uniqueness of each locale while focusing on themes of inclusion and diversity. In 2007, Keigwin + Company premiered Bolero/NC at the American Dance Festival and Bolero/NYC at NYU’s Skirball Center. Keigwin next travels to Denver’s Newman Center for the Performing arts to create Bolero/CO.
