Using a unique style that blends experimental dance with visual art, theater, puppetry, and music, Christopher Williams creates multifaceted choreographic works of extraordinary imagination. Preferring to cast each new piece specifically rather than maintaining a set company, he skillfully assembles an array of brilliant performers that juxtapose many body types and span many ages in order to instill his work with an unusual physical counterpoint. He received a Bessie Award in 2005 for his work Ursula and the 11,000 Virgins, and The Portuguese Suite was featured in the 2007 Fall For Dance Festival at New York City Center. Christopher’s current project, The Golden Legend, is inspired by the fantastical stories of male saints. The completed work consists of solos for 17 corporeally and ethnically diverse male dancers set to early or original music composed in praise of each saint.
